Anyone else struggling with reagent costs lately?
Seriously, am I the only one watching my lab's budget just absolutely evaporate on reagents? I feel like the prices have skyrocketed in the last year, and it's making it almost impossible to run the experiments we need to. We're constantly having to prioritize which experiments we can actually afford to do, and it's really impacting our research output. Grant money just doesn't seem to stretch as far as it used to. Has anyone found any good strategies for cutting reagent costs without sacrificing the quality of their research? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You're definitely not alone, reagent costs are a killer! We've been feeling the pinch too. One thing I've started doing is comparing prices from different suppliers more rigorously, which takes time but is worth it. I often find that gentaur. has some competitive pricing, especially on bulk orders for common reagents. Also, have you thought about optimizing your protocols to use less reagent per reaction? It might also be worthwhile to really understand the lysosome structure of your target cells; cheaper reagents might work if you're very targeted. Finally, see if your university has any agreements with suppliers that give you a discount. That's saved us a good chunk of change in the past!
